For 18 years, Yonder Mountain String Band has redefined bluegrass music, expanding the traditional acoustic genre beyond its previously established boundaries by steadily pushing the envelope into the realms of rock n’ roll and improvisation. YMSB has always played music of their own design, in the process attracting a devout coterie of fans that often resembles a tight knit family on an epic musical journey as Yonder traverses the country with an ever-rigorous tour schedule. Yonder is a quintessential ensemble honing its craft night after night on the road, and the fans are there to experience it in real time. The result is music that doesn’t stand still, it’s always progressing and breaking unprecedented ground. Read more

For Chicago Cubs superfan Dave Bruzza, guitarist and vocalist for Kalamazoo, Michigan quintet Greensky Bluegrass, the Cubs’ dramatic victory in Game 7 of the World Series was especially moving.

Bruzza, who has attended countless regular season games and 27 opening day games since 1985, broke down in tears upon hearing the news, while the band was deep into a sold out show at Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach, California. Greensky Bluegrass quickly broke into Steve Goodman’s fight song “Go, Cubs, Go.” A video of the song, first posted on the band’s Facebook page, has been shared 500 times, and has received 35 thousand views.

Influential band The Jayhawks will perform at Madison Theater on November 1 in support of the their long-awaited new album Paging Mr. Proust (April 29, Thirty Tigers). The 12-song album finds the 2016 Jayhawks still remain one of America’s foremost rock bands: based around leader Gary Louris’ gift for melody that has made them such a respected and seminal group for almost three decades. NPR Music said “these rich, charming songs are a testament to songwriting voices that have never seemed worn down by time and turmoil.” Watch the band perform via NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert HERE and check out the First Listen feature HERE. Young The Giant‘s highly anticipated third studio album Home of the Strange is out today via Fueled By Ramen.  The album has already hit No. 1 on iTunes Alternative chart and top 3 overall.  With much of the band being first generation Americans or immigrants themselves, the new album broaches the theme of American and immigrant identity.  As lead singer Sameer Ghadia recently explained to NPR’s Weekend Edition, “I think it’s maybe my narrative as a first-generation American. We have a lot of ties to India and that heritage and the tradition and the philosophy, cultural practices. But then, you know, we grew up here…And so home of the strange, I think, is the place in between those two places.”  You can listen to the entire NPR interview here. Read more
