2013 Winter Blues Fest – 25+ Bands in Downtown Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, OH – January 14, 2013: On February 8 and 9, 2013, Cincinnati will be rocking with more than 25 blues bands. The Cincy Blues Society’s Winter Blues Fest celebrates over two decades of supporting the Blues. This year’s festival showcases the best local and regional Blues musicians for two nights, from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am at The Phoenix in downtown Cincinnati.

Great Local Lineup With Special Touring Acts
More than 25 local and regional blues bands will perform over two nights. Headlining Friday night is award-winning guitar player Sonny Moorman. Saturday night features a Cincinnati homecoming for the Nashville-based Stacy Mitchhart Band.  Read more

Cincy Blues Fest Features Young Blues Talent on Next Generation Stage

CINCINNATI, OH – July 31, 2012: The Cincy Blues Society is celebrating 20 years of bringing the best blues to Cincinnati in the summer, but some of the performers are barely older than the Fest itself.

On Friday, August 10, the Cincy Blues Fest is featuring six up-and-coming young blues acts on its “Blues: The Next Generation Stage” under the Arches of the Purple People Bridge at Sawyer Point.

  • Opening the stage is the Wade Baker Trio. Primarily known around town for his jazz trumpet skills, Wade brings his blazing guitar to the forefront of this blues trio.
  • Jellico Motel, a band borne out of the Cincy Blues Society’s Blues in the Schools program, features the vocals of Ms. Rio Van.
  • Indiana bluesman Brian Keith Wallen, who represented the Cincy Blues Society at the 2012 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, will be appearing with his new 3-piece band.  Read more

Cincy Blues Fest Celebrates 20th Year — August 10 & 11 at Sawyer Point

CINCINNATI, OH – July 16, 2012: Now in its 20th year of bringing a unique blend of music to Cincinnati, the Cincy Blues Fest is showcasing more than 30 acts on four stages:

  • Budweiser Main Stage:  Featuring headliners and living legends of the blues world.
  • Arches Stage (Friday):  This year’s theme is Blues: The Next Generation.
  • Boogie-Woogie Piano Hall of Fame Stage (Saturday):  A gathering of blues and boogie piano greats from around the world.
  • St. Vincent DePaul Local Stage:  Showcasing the best of Cincinnati’s award-wining blues scene.

On August 10 and 11, Cincinnati’s Sawyer Point Park will be rocking with local and national blues performers.  This year, the Budweiser Main Stage features Duke Robillard, Webb Wilder, Trampled Under Foot, Super Chikan, Sista Monica, and Southern Hospitality as well as Cincy Blues Challengewinners Noah Wotherspoon Band and Chris Yakopcic. Press Conference Tuesday, May 8, Announcing 20th Anniversary Cincy Blues Fest Line-up and Details

CINCINNATI, OH – May 2, 2012:  On Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 5:30pm, the Cincy Blues Societywill be holding a press event and kickoff party at The Drinkery (1150 Main St.) to announce the Main Stage and other line-ups for the 20th annual Cincy Blues Fest.

James Czar, President of the organization, and Mike Wayne, Director of the Fest, will announce the event’s performers, and the special theme for this year’s Friday night showcase stage.  “This is our big 20th anniversary,” explains Director Wayne, “and we’re pulling out all the stops.”

19-year old blues prodigy Brian Keith Wallen will perform at the event.  Wallen was the winner of the 2011 Cincy Blues Challenge, and represented the Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis this past February. Read more

New and Familiar Faces Grace the Stages at Winter Blues Fest

CINCINNATI, OH – January 27, 2012: This year’s Winter Blues Fest in Over-The-Rhine features the best local Blues musicians, and also includes headliners who have toured nationally and internationally. But fans will also be treated to some familiar faces from the past, as well as artists who are new to the Winter Blues Fest.

“We play like it is going to be the last time we play…every time.”

Greg Schaber, Ron Esposito and Jeff Dobbins — formerly of High Street Rhythm Rockers, and Greg Schaber & High Street – will perform as the Greg Schaber Band on Saturday night, February 11, at the Drinkery.  Read more

2012 Winter Blues Fest Lineup Announced

CINCINNATI, OH – January 18, 2012: More than 30 local and regional blues bands will perform at this year’s Cincy Blues Society Winter Blues Fest in Over-The-Rhine.

A special feature this year is Friday night’s Ladies Night — The Drinkery stage will feature bands that are all fronted by women. Headlining Friday’s Ladies Night is internationally touring artist Kelly Richey.

Nashville musician RB Stone headlines on Saturday, bringing a unique Americana blues sound to the stage, backed by select Cincinnati blues artists.

CINCINNATI, OH – January 9, 2012: On February 10 and 11, 2012, the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati will be rocking with more than 25 local blues bands. The Cincy Blues Society’s Winter Blues Fest celebrates over two decades of supporting the Blues with the same great music, but a new location. The annual festival showcases the best local and regional Blues musicians for two nights, from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am.

New Location
The Southgate House in Newport, KY, was the home of the Winter Blues Fest for the past few years, but after Southgate announced its closing in early December 2011, Fest coordinators scouted the area for a new location. “Because we have bands playing on multiple stages simultaneously, we needed to find a venue that would provide the high-quality sound that our bands are used to, as well as keep the sound of the bands from overlapping each other,” said Mark Bubash, festival coordinator.
