The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra kicks off its 2015-16 season with a full concert weekend Sept. 25-27 fueled by Berlioz’s psychedelic masterpiece Symphonie fantastique, one movement of which was recently heard as part of the CSO’s wildly popular LUMENOCITY® summer concert. Conducted by Music Director Louis Langrée, the performances on Friday (11 a.m.) and Saturday (8 p.m.) Sept. 25-26 feature this dramatic masterpiece, which Berlioz wrote to impress a love interest, as well as revered pianist Yefim Bronfman (a favorite of CSO audiences) performing Bartók’s Second Piano Concerto. In the final stages of recording the follow-up to 2011’s Worship Music, Anthrax – Joey Belladonna/vocals, Frank Bello/bass, Charlie Benante/drums, guitarist Jon Donais, and Scott Ian/rhythm guitar – will hit the road beginning August 28 for a 42-city global trek that will see the band playing three major festivals as well as sharing stages with the likes of Motorhead and their fellow Big Four comrades, Slayer. A new voice from the Midwest comes from songwriter Matt Mooney.   He’s introducing or perhaps just reworking a modern interpretation of a Ziggy Stardust-esque persona with his alter-ego/stage name Royal Holland.  He’s just self-released 2 of 3 eps that tell a tragic story of young love lost through death and the sky kingdoms’ tyranny.  In the songs, he tries keep her memory alive and also deals with his surmounting grief. Brooklyn band The Lone Bellow released their stunning new music video via Entertainment Weekly today. Virginia Madsen stars in the piece for the band’s song “Fake Roses” about lead singer Zach Williams mother-in-law Edna. Williams tells EW, ” Edna was the first single mother that I ever met. I remember walking up and the lawn was super un-kept and I’m this 15-year-old boy who bush hogged fields, so it was weird to me. Then I walked into their house and a lot of the lights were off and that was even weird, I just thought, ‘Man, this is crazy.’ And then I med Edna, and she is just this sweet sweet soul. She was a nurse and started working days and nights when she and her husband split.” The video was shot in Williams’ hometown of Lafayette, Georgia in his mother-in-law’s home and other various childhood haunts. Madesen gives a powerful portrayal of the loneliness and pressure a single-mother has to endure. Read more
