Critically-acclaimed Birmingham, Alabama octet St. Paul & The Broken Bones will perform at Taft Theatre on February 21 in support of their celebrated album Young Sick Camellia (RECORDS). Led by the insightful lyrics and extraordinary vocals of exhilarating front man Paul Janeway, St. Paul & The Broken Bones possess the unique ability to make you dance and shout while simultaneously making you think. Young Sick Camellia contains nine songs infused with the band’s cross-section of soul, rock ‘n’ roll, R&B and funk, mixed with passion, intensity and a boundary-blurring musical exploration. The album has received widespread acclaim, including positive coverage from Esquire, Salon, Rolling Stone, No Depression, UPROXX and more. Following the success of their debut album Half The City (2014), St. Paul & The Broken Bones made a strong statement and cemented their identity with 2016’s critically acclaimed follow up, Sea Of Noise. The sophomore album firmly established the group as a smart, thoughtful, socially-conscious band with much to say. Where Sea Of Noise featured an outward looking commentary on the current state of our society, Young Sick Camelia looks deeply inward with Janeway’s most personal lyrics to date. The singer dives into his own family dynamic to address generational differences while also searching to find common ground. St. Paul & The Broken Bones teamed up with celebrated R&B/hip-hop/dance producer Jack Splash for Young Sick Camelia, whose work appears on albums by Solange, Kendrick Lamar, Diplo, Alicia Keys, Cee Lo Green, Mayer Hawthorne and many more. “…anyone who might have written off St. Paul & The Broken Bones as a mere throwback ought to settle in and marinate in a sound that keeps getting weirder, more inventive and, in danceable ringers like ‘Apollo,’ more committed than ever to the pleasures of sprightly, joyous funk.” – NPR Music

Over the course of the last four years, St. Paul & The Broken Bones have become one the most exciting and explosive must-see live bands, making new fans out of anyone who experiences a performance, with no limitations. Janeway has built a reputation as one of music’s most electrifying front men and the Broken Bones – Jesse Phillips (bass), Browan Lollar (guitar), Al Gamble (keys), Andrew Lee (drums), Allen Bransetter (trumpet), Chad Fisher (trombone) and Amari Ansari (sax) – are a full-on rhythmic powerhouse. They were selected by The Rolling Stones to open two stadium shows and befriended by Sir Elton John who invited the group to play his annual Oscar party, where he performed alongside them. St. Paul & The Broken Bones have been the subject of features at Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Vanity Fair and The Wall Street Journal, with national television performances on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Conan, and Austin City Limits.
