Earlier this year, Cincinnatti’s Dawg Yawp released their debut self-titled album via Old Flame Records. The duo of Tyler Randall and Rob Keenan quickly gained attention for their unique combination of sitar and acoustic guitar paired with sampled synthesizers and percussion. The band’s local alt-weekly CityBeat called the duo “…one of the most original and intricately considered bands in Cincinnati’s musical history.”

Today, NPR Music shared the band’s Tiny Desk Concert that was recorded earlier this year at NPR’s offices in Washington, DC. NPR’s Bob Boilen called the band a, “…vessel for humor, experimentation and foot-stomping fun, whether that stomping is to an original techno beat or a classic bluegrass tune… It’s both clever and wonderfully weird.”

“The Tiny Desk experience was absolutely incredible for us. We have never had such a unique and intimate show experience. The staff really made sure the music came first from the moment we arrived, and we felt such a warm welcome which allowed us to get into a wonderful space together,” explains the band. “The sense love we felt from NPR was yet another extension of the sense of family we have experienced from the support of public radio as a whole. As we continue to develop and grow along this journey, we are eternally grateful for the personalities helping to get our sound on the waves.”

The band’s single “Can’t Think,” that was played at the Tiny Desk was named one of the top 100 songs local NPR stations were playing in 2016. The track originally premiered via Consequence of Sound, who called Randall a “master sitarist” and said “…he brings the instrument into his songwriting to create sounds that can only be described as completely original.”

Last year, Bob Boilen of NPR Music’s All Songs Considered premiered the band’s cover of The Stanley Brother’s “East Virginia Blues.” Boilen stated, “On paper, the idea of a sitar-guitar Appalachian folk duo may seem puzzling, but in the hands of Dawg Yawp, it works.”

This fall, the band will hit the road for a run headline dates and a run supporting Charleston, SC’s SUSTO. Find a full list of upcoming Tour Dates below.

“We are so excited to go on our longest tour yet and are extremely lucky to be opening for SUSTO on many of the dates. This will be the first time we have a chance to play in some of these cities, and we’re also looking forward to getting back to some of our favorite places: reconnecting with fans and sharing some new music while making new fans and friends along the way.”
