The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra welcomes back former Music Director Jesús López-Cobos who will conduct its concerts at Music Hall March 31 and April 2. The CSO will perform Gustav Mahler’s magnum opus, the composer’s Ninth Symphony. This epic work is in good hands with Maestro López-Cobos, who is revered worldwide for his interpretations of Mahler’s symphonies. This reunion of the CSO and Maestro López-Cobos is particularly significant as CSO’s recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 under this former Music Director is considered a essential recording of the work and received critical and popular acclaim.

The 90-minute work is a “farewell” by the composer, who knew it would be one of final works. “It is for me a very special occasion to come back to Cincinnati where I spent 15 wonderful years musically speaking…When we recorded Mahler’s Ninth Symphony I was much younger. In the past years I conducted this symphony several times and every time is a new experience. I hope to bring this time the result of these experiences with the piece and in my life,” said Maestro López-Cobos in an interview for Fanfare Cincinnati (the CSO’s program book magazine).

Thursday night dinner: A light pre-concert dinner buffet will be available in the Music Hall Ballroom prior to the Thursday, Mar. 31 performance. The dinner is free for subscribers and just $7 for non-subscribers. Call the CSO Box Office to add on the dinner.

Tickets for these concerts start at just $12 and are available by calling the CSO Box Office at (513) 381-3300 or visiting www.cincinnatisymphony.org.

The CSO is grateful to Masterworks Series Sponsor U.S. Bank and to Monarch Construction Company for its generous sponsorship of these concerts.

Music Hall Renovation Update
Music Hall remains open through May 2016. Construction fencing is erected around portions of Music Hall, but walkways remain open. The bars and restrooms on the orchestra level are rearranged to accommodate changes as behind the scenes construction begins. The auditorium and most public spaces are unaffected.
