Three weeks away from the release of The Wild Mercury, Vandaveer are debuting a captivating new animated video, directed by Michael Lloyd, via NPR.
“A Little Time Off Ahead” is an upbeat number off the fifth, and career-defining LP for the band. The video’s “storybook” aesthetic, coupled with the syrup-sweet doubled vocal delivery of the song, could have easily touched on saccharine with many other collaborators, but predictably, with the earnest talents of both frontman Mark Charles Heidinger, and director Michael Lloyd, the end result dovetails as well as fans might hope.
“My goal for the video was to evoke the feeling of a children’s book as a complement to the song’s lyrics and melody,” declares Lloyd. “Both literally in the story arc and stylistically through a cut paper style and simple lines in the animation. Weaving elements of the real world with fantastical adventures, I hoped to convey a world and story that feel both timeless and contemporary, touching on the universal sentiment of longing for the ones we love.”
The band is also announcing their first slate of touring beginning on February 17th, that will immediately overlap the release of The Wild Mercury, a feat not easy in the current hot take/short news cycle media world we currently all live in. Truly Vandaveer are a prolific act that continues to impress new ears and satiate established fans.
The Wild Mercury out 2/19 on WhiteSpace Records.
