The Miami University Regionals Artist Series returns this year with an outstanding lineup of performances that includes classical guitar, bluegrass, folk, Americana and indie rock music at the Hamilton and Middletown campuses.

Jerry Douglas presents The Earls of Leicester to kick off the 2015-2016 Artist Series season at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 at Miami Middletown’s Dave Finkelman Auditorium. This 2015 bluegrass Grammy Award winning band consists of Jerry Douglas; solo artist Shawn Camp on lead vocals and guitar; Nashville banjoist Charlie Cushman on banjo and guitars; songwriter, mandolin and fiddle master Johnny Warren; and Barry Bales on vocals and bass.

The Earls of Leicester are the product of Douglas’s passion for the music of bluegrass pioneers Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs and their band the Foggy Mountain Boys, whose work in the ’50s and ’60s created the standard for contemporary bluegrass and transcended traditional genre barriers to popularize the music. The Earls of Leicester bring fresh energy to old classics, while maintaining the same emotional authenticity, instrumental expertise and vibrant creative spirit. Tim O’Brien is not currently touring with the band.

Other performances scheduled for the 2015-2016 Artist Series at Miami Middletown’s Dave Finkelman Auditorium include Arlo Guthrie’s 50th Anniversary Tour of Alice’s Restaurant on Oct. 14, Patty Griffin, Sara Watkins, and Anais Mitchell on March 18 and Southern Troubadours in the Round featuring Paul Thorn, Ruthie Foster, and Joe Ely on April 9.

Artist Series performances at Miami Hamilton’s Parrish Auditorium include Sharon Isbin on Oct. 24, Joe Pug and Heather Maloney on Nov. 14, Sam Baker and Gretchen Peters on Feb. 27 and The SteelDrivers on April 16.
