The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Louis Langrée announce the reprisal of the wildly popular One City, One Symphony initiative, designed to bring people together through music. The Orchestra, along with dozens of community partners, will provide opportunities for audiences to connect and discuss music in-depth, leading up to the CSO’s performances on November 14, 15 & 16, 2014 at Music Hall. This year’s program centers around the theme of “Heroes,” culminating with Mahler’s expansive First Symphony, known simply as “Titan.” Also on the program are Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture, as well as the Hymne à la justice, written by French composer Albéric Magnard (who became a national hero when he died defending his home and family from German soldiers in World War I).
One City, One Symphony will again feature community listening parties, dozens of community partners and collaborations, educational materials, radio broadcasts and more.
One City, One Symphony: Many Hands
In the spirit of heroism inspired by the concert program, the CSO introduces for the first time “One City, One Symphony: Many Hands.” Recognizing that the smallest acts of kindness can change the world, the CSO is inviting the entire community to give back this fall through volunteer service. Whether helping a neighbor or a favorite charitable organization, between September 13- November 7, volunteers can track community service hours via an online form on the CSO’s website. Adults logging eight or more hours and students 17 and under logging four or more hours will earn a voucher redeemable for one free ticket to the CSO’s November 14-16 performances at Music Hall. The CSO has partnered with Welcomers Community Volunteer Network, United Way and Give Back Cincinnati, collectively providing hundreds of organizations and causes with which to volunteer.

Day of Service: In addition, volunteers may also choose to participate in the CSO’s “Day of Service” on Monday, November 3, joining Louis Langrée, CSO musicians, staff and fellow audience members in a rewarding service experience. More details on the Day of Service will be announced at a later date.
Volunteer Celebration & Launch Party: A Volunteer Celebration and Many Hands Launch Party, hosted by the Welcomers Network, will be held on September 24, 5:30-7 p.m. in the Music Hall lobby. Attendees can learn more about different volunteer opportunities and celebrate the beginning of the “Many Hands” initiative. Listening Parties
One City, One Symphony will once again feature free neighborhood “listening parties” designed to explore and discuss the pieces at locations throughout the Tri-state and moderated by CSO musicians and conductors. Over a dozen listening parties are scheduled throughout Greater Cincinnati beginning in September. More details on Listening Parties will be available at a later date.

Radio Broadcasts
Radio station 90.9 WGUC will present six radio broadcasts of the works by Beethoven, Magnard and Mahler leading up to the CSO performances. The station will play Hymne à la justice on Monday, October 6 at 11:44 a.m. and Thursday, October 30 at 2:44 p.m., Coriolan Overture on Wednesday, October 22 at 1:05 p.m. and Friday, November 7 at 10:06 a.m., and Titan Symphony Tuesday, October 14 at 6 p.m. and Thursday, November 13 at 6 p.m.
