In a grand homecoming, Cincinnati’s own The Afghan Whigs will perform at this fall’s MidPoint Music Festival. This will be the only Cincinnati appearance on their worldwide tour in support of Do To The Beast, the band’s first album of new material in 16 years.
The Afghan Whigs will headline the Washington Park stage on Friday, September 26. More artists and headlining acts will be revealed May 14. General admission tickets for this all-ages headline showcase will go on sale May 14.

Since forming in Cincinnati in 1986, The Afghan Whigs have endeared fans and critics alike on their way to international rock stardom. A spotlight shined on the local music scene after the band signed to Sub Pop Records in 1990. The group quickly became national alt-rock darlings and a staple of college radio.
After 11 dormant years, an unexpected reunion tour rolled out in 2012 to packed audiences around the globe. Reviews stated these shows weren’t merely trotting out nostalgia; rather the band was in peak form, sounding better than it ever had.
The band has now returned with their first album in sixteen years, Do To The Beast. Upon its release last month, the album debuted at #32 on the Billboard Top 200, making it the highest charting album of their career.
It also marks their return to Sub Pop—for whom the Whigs were the first signed act from outside the label’s Northwest base—and provides a glimpse into the future of one of the most acclaimed bands of the past twenty-five years.
Fans can catch The Afghan Whigs on television on Wednesday, June 4 on The Late Show With David Letterman.
