Nashville songwriter Andrew Combs has been tapped to play nine shows with the fast-rising Charleston band Shovels & Rope on their February 2013 headlining tour. The tour kicks off at Bowery Ballroom in New York and finishes at House of Blues in New Orleans the day before Mardi Gras.
Combs met Shovels & Rope’s Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent while supporting their spring 2012 tour with Jonny Fritz. The tight-knit community of artists has also helped spawn Fritz’s latest project, VHSession. Combs recorded a new song “Part Time Lovers (Full Time Fools)” for the inaugural session.
Combs released his debut album, Worried Man, in October 2012. American Songwriter put the album on its best of 2012 list, noting that it “draws from a bygone, denim-on-denim era of country where the only ‘crossover’ element was with folk, not radio pop.” Following the album’s release, Combs toured the Northeast with Angel Snow, played a pair of Kentucky shows with Houndmouth (Rough Trade), and went out with New Orleans band Sam Doores & the Tumbleweeds for a winter tour of the Southeast. Combs finished the year opening for three of Jason Isbell’s holiday shows in Tennessee and Alabama. In January, Combs heads to Florida for the 30A Songwriter’s Festival before joining Shovels & Rope in New York.
