The Appleseed Collective
March 28, 2014
The Crow’s Nest, 4544 W 8th St. Cincinnati, OH
Mix the Hot Club of Paris with the sweaty soul of Dixieland, a couple blades of bluegrass, a pinch of ragtime beat, and a western swinging swagger and you’ve just conjured the sound of The Appleseed Collective. Over the past few years, the band has put the pedal to the metal touring the country in support of their 2012 release, Baby to Beast.
A showcase of the eclectic mix of writing styles, Beast feels youthful–voices calling out to you, the group blossoming around each piece. “The blends of swing, bluegrass, Dixieland ditties and alluring gypsy-folk whirls – is something close to a transcendent listen … you’re there, on some dirt road, being led on by these songs,” raves Jeff Milo of iSpy Magazine. Since then, Freekbass has released five full-length CDs, including the current “Concentrate” featuring a stellar guestlist with Bootsy Collins, DJ Spooky, Adam Deitch, and Steve Molitz. Read more

18+, $20 adv, $25 dos, 7:30pm doors, 8:30pm show
The band was unceremoniously birthed in 1992 and they very quickly became a forebearer for the new style alongside Uncle Tupelo, Old 97’s, and Whiskeytown.
When The Bottle Rockets hit the scene in the mid ‘90s, the world wasn’t quite sure what to do with them. With their punk-rock pedigrees and arena-rock energy, their tougher-than-Springsteen storytelling and their romantic hearts sewn bare on their denim sleeves, the pride of Festus, MO confounded musical generalities as they laid waste to clubs across the Midwest and then, soon enough, the nation.
