46 Long (Jonathan Reynolds – Guitar/Vocals/happy feet, and Blake Taylor – Harmonica / Vocals / occasional nudity) has been supplying the greater Cincinnati area with high-energy semi-acoustic Blues since the spring of 2001. Over one billion people experienced her electric artistry during the Opening Ceremonies of the London Olympic Games, and on Friday and Saturday, November 2-3, Dame Evelyn Glennie performs live with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Dame Glennie lights up Music Hall’s stage with Jennifer Higdon’s awe-inspiring Percussion Concerto, a huge audience hit when the CSO last performed it in 2009. Widely known for pushing boundaries and thrilling audiences, Dame Glennie performs with an eclectic and innovative style that is sure to amaze. Conductor Peter Oundjian joins the Orchestra with a program of orchestral showpieces including Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso paired with Rimsky-Korsakov’s beloved Capriccio espagnol and Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini, which tells Dante’s infamous story of love and lust. This is the first concert of the 2012-13 season Boundless Series, curated by Ms. Higdon herself, pairing classics with bold, fresh new works. Read more
Newport, KY —- The Southgate House Revival will host DEVOUT WAX, a free, weekly vinyl record appreciation night, Tuesdays from 8 P.M.–1:30 A.M., in the Lounge. DEVOUT WAX will be DJ’d by Margaret Darling (of The Seedy Seeds) and Jonathan Goolsby (host of WVQC’s “Salina Underground” radio program).
DEVOUT WAX will feature two curated, eclectic DJ sets by Darling and Goolsby, approximately 1 1/2 hours of spin-by-request time in which attendees will have an opportunity to bring their own records and play them, and a 30-minute local interest block, featuring records by Cincinnati artists and regional acts. The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra celebrates the highly anticipated 50th anniversary of suave secret agent James Bond at Music Hall. On Sunday, November 4 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, November 11 at 2 p.m., conductor John Morris Russell leads the Pops in performing iconic Bond themes and thrilling selections from classic espionage films in “Bond and Beyond.”
Guest vocalists Ron Bohmer and Capathia Jenkins lend their voices to the Pops to create a stealthy, sultry atmosphere worthy of Britain’s most famous Secret Agent. Mr. Bohmer is a graduate of Cincinnati’s School for the Creative and Performing Arts and has performed with the Pops on several occasions. Ms. Jenkins has numerous Broadway, off-Broadway, movie and television credits to her name and will be making her Cincinnati Pops debut. Read more
