With the soothing sound of piano accompanied by a strong voice and an electronica edge, Jennings creates a sound all her own. Drawing inspiration from musicians like Imogen Heap, Annie Lennox, Kate Bush and Moby, each song Jennings creates is unique. With “Femtastic” and now “Storybook EP” complete, Jennings has built on the lessons of her life and musical journey and courageously perfected the delicate balance between vulnerability, honesty and grit.
“I believe that the difference between an artist and the average person is a fearless and relentless willingness to expose their quarks, oddities, secrets, and passions for all of the world to see and hear.” Jennings is certainly no exception to the rule. Her voice and words are her ways of expressing happiness, mourning, anxiety, anger, and excitement, allowing her listeners to laugh, cry, and live every one of her emotions. Although she is small in stature, Jennings’ music reflects an enormous strength and drive that is uniquely hers.
Cincy Groove: What was the inspiration for your latest release “Storybook”?
Mary Jennings: I’m always writing and I have this batch of new songs since the Femtastic record that I wanted to start promoting and I have been playing them at shows a lot. My fans wanted the new songs on a cd so they could put them on their ipods and computers. I chose those 5 songs from probably 7 or 8 that I was considering. Those five just really stood out from the rest. Read more

Interview by Scott Preston
moe. is the preeminent progressive rock band on the music scene today. In a remarkable career that’s touched upon three decades and produced 17 albums, the quintet of Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey on guitars and vocals, Rob Derhak on bass and vocals, Jim Loughlin on percussion and vibes, and Vinnie Amico on Drums, continues to push the standard for performance art.
Critical acclaim and a solid national and international fan base has built a dedicated following that grows each year. Whether touring across the globe, headlining music festivals, or sharing the stage with such celebrated acts as the Allmans, The Who, or Robert Plant, among others, what keeps moe. at the forefront of the music scene is not only the energy and vitality of their music and songwriting, but the showmanship in which it is delivered
Cincy Groove: I see that you have been offering flash drives right after your shows with the live recording on them. How long have you guys been doing that?
Chuck Garvey: I think we started right after the new year this year. Years ago we did the instant live thing where you could get cd’s right after the show. We were one of the first ones early on to start doing that. After a while people stopped doing it and we were wondering what was next. The live cd thing is a really cool idea but it very cumbersome and hard to maintain over a long period of time. A friend of ours brought the flash drive idea to our attention. We had been talking about it and the price on bulk flash drives finally came down. We have been making a Matrix mix or a “hybrid” mix, with the soundboard and 4-5 mics at this point. We really have been working on a hi-fi representation of our show that you can wear around your neck on your way out. It’s really pretty amazing. Literally about 15 minutes after we finish the encore they are ready. We also put on all kinds of extra goodies, side project stuff, lyrics, photos. Read more
Nashville, TN – August 18th – Sam Bush doesn’t seem old enough to be a musical legend. And he’s not. But he is. In September, the Americana Music Association with its Lifetime Achievement for Instrumentalist award will honor Bush, who is alternately known as the King of Telluride and the King of Newgrass. “It’s overwhelming and humbling,” says Bush of the honor. “It goes along with the title cut of my new album, Circles Around Me, which basically says, how in the hell did we get this far? In my brain I’m still 17, but I look in the mirror and I’m 57.”
Circles Around Me, Bush’s seventh solo album and sixth with Sugar Hill, will be released Oct. 20. The album is an aurally inspiring mix of bluegrass favorites and complementary new songs. “I don’t know why, but it felt right at this moment in my life to go back and revisit some things that I’ve loved all my life, which is bluegrass and, unapologetically, newgrass,” says Bush. “After all these years of experimenting –and there’s experimentation on this record too –I’ve come full circle.”
Produced by three-time Grammy winner Bush, the 14-song set includes appearances by Del McCoury, Edgar Meyer, Jerry Douglas and New Grass Revival co-founder Courtney Johnson (posthumously). The album also employs the phenomenal talent of Bush’s band: Scott Vestal, Stephen Mougin, Byron House and Chris Brown.
The title cut, which Bush co-wrote with Jeff Black, “is about being thankful that you’re still here, that you’re still alive walking around,” Bush explains. “Why are we the ones still here when we’ve had fallen comrades and loved ones?” Read more
Here I Am, released August 18, 2009, is the sixth full-length studio release from California-based international fusion-music pioneers Groundation. Look for the band on an all-too-rare U.S. tour this fall.
Here I Am was recorded last year following a period of extensive touring that took Groundation not only to locales as far-flung as Israel, Morocco, Europe and South America but, for the first time, east of the Rockies within their own country. Read more
Gov’t Mule is proud to announce that their latest record, ‘By A Thread’ is set for an October 27th release through Evil Teen Records. Their first studio album in three years, ‘By A Thread’ finds the Mule, lead guitarist and frontman Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, keyboardist Danny Louis, and bassist Jorgen Carlsson, adding a newfound shot of soul to their classic power-band sound. The band is currently on short break between legs of a massive worldwide tour, which will resume September 9th in Salt Lake City. A full list of dates is below.
‘By A Thread’ was recorded largely in the Texas Hill Country at Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studio in 2009, the album’s origins are apparent from the first track, “Broke Down On The Brazos,” named after the nearby river, with a deep Texas stomp for the backbeat and featuring what Rolling Stone recently called “an incendiary duel with ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons.” Perhaps less descriptively named, “Steppin’ Lightly” is another burner, set off by the soulful vocals and mind-bending guitar work of Haynes, who proves anew why Rolling Stone named him one of the Top 25 guitarists of all time, and why he was voted Best Rock Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine’s 2009 Reader’s Poll.
Gov’t Mule has had over 2 million paid song downloads through their site MuleTracks and released nearly a dozen acclaimed and bestselling albums while emerging as a major touring force, routinely headlining pavilions, theaters, and festivals. Read more
